SLATE + SALT was founded by an avid traveler who felt the need to share her stories and finds with the world. Through extensive travel to developing countries, Lyndsay fell in love with the people, the cultures, and the craftsmanship of pieces that applied traditional techniques to modern designs.

She recognized the beauty of hand-crafted products as opposed to mass-produced goods made in factories. She saw an opportunity to give a worldwide customer base to artisans in rural villages. Through frequent trips and partnerships with Fair Trade cooperatives, she fosters relationships to bring ever-changing handcrafted designs to the globally minded nomad.

Ocean Tribal Clutch:

Artisan Profile

Laos is a country of diverse ethnic groups, each with unique and highly adept craft and artisan skills, but the pressures of modern life and the availability of cheap factory made imports have resulted in Lao people giving up their crafts and their rural livelihoods. As a result, many of the crafts of Laos are vanishing art formfactory-mades. Our design and production teams work closely with artisan groups in Laos to create items that fit modern, natural lifestyles while still retaining the spirit of traditional craftsmanship. Guided by the principles of fair trade, we work to create employment opportunities for villagers, especially women, and to reduce poverty, and each product is made and finished in the villages.

These beautiful tribal bags are made using hand-woven and hand-dyed saa (mulberry) bark. From dyeing and weaving to the finishing work, the value-added income stays in the village. In addition to using natural fibers, materials, and dyes, the villagers are committed to reducing waste and upcycling, when possible. Bags are lined with remnant fabrics and fibers. Nothing goes to waste and everything is done to consciously reduce waste and protect the environment.

Who We Are

Kumiho co is an Oregon-based company that is focused on bringing attention to small North American artists and brands. We are passionate about providing modern, eco-friendly, and sustainable home décor.

Our name, Kumiho, was inspired by the Korean legend and folktale of the nine-tailed fox. The nine-tailed fox was known for its longevity and accumulation of energy. This is what we represent, creating a long-lasting relationship between artists and our website audience with the energy to curate products amongst this class of people.

Also, legend holds that the Kumiho is distinguished by its "yeo woo guseul" which consists of in-depth knowledge. This depicts our knowledge base in both the industry and in curating products for home décor.

What We Do

Each brand we bring to our site has a unique story or product. Before we get it out to our website audience, we engage in the proper vetting of all products for quality and assurance.

We have curated collections for your home décor that adds the touch of beauty that you’ve always dreamt of. This is what we do and are known for. We remain the bridge between artist and consumer.

In summary we:

  • Find ethically sourced brands and artists with a unique story
  • Test their quality
  • Bring together a collection of trendy home décor with the quality to back it up
  • Constantly search for cool new brands to bring to showcase. Like handcrafted Tunisian ceramics or upcycled textiles made by fair trade artisans in Bangladesh
